Presentation Ceremony of Imported Commode Chairs/Wheel Chair Commodes to Disabled Gemunu Watch War Heroes on 26/09/2009.

The Presentation Ceremony of Wheel Chair Commodes/Commode Chairs to the Disabled War Heroes of the Gemunu Watch was held on 26th September 2009 at the Kuruwita Army camp, the Home of Gemunu Watch. Executive Committee Members of Gemunu Watch Ex Service Regimental Association and a large number of disabled war heroes were present. Mr.Ananda Welikala and Mr. Das represented the donors at this ceremony.

The Centre Commandant Colonel Jagath Pakshaweera and the other serving members of the Regimental Centre received the guests and the mebers of GWESRA at the main entrance and were conducted to the Gemunu Rana Viru Memorial in possession with the Gemunu Watch cultural troupe in the lead.

A cross section of representatives and disabled War Heroes laid wreaths in memory of the fallen at the Rana Viru Memorial. After a colorful ceremony the guests were entertained to tea at the Regimental HQ. After tea they preceded to Brigadier Ariyapperuma Memorial Hall where one hundred disabled War Heroes and two retired disabled War Heroes were donated Commode chairs.

The disabled war heroes expressed their gratitude and presented a plaque to Mr.Ananda Welikala at the end of the ceremony.

The Project Coordinator Brigadier Hiran Halangode RWP RSP USP (Rted) commenting on this noble project said that all the disabled War Heroes were very happy that we had not forgotten their valuable contribution to defeat terrorism and bring about a new era of peace in Sri Lanka. He further said, in this respect “We are deeply grateful to all our donors who made this project a great success”
